Interstitial Cystitis

Interstitial cystitis is a urological condition, resulting in inflammation of the bladder wall.  The causes of interstitial cystitis (IC) are poorly understood and may be multifactoral in nature.  IC can result in bladder pain, a feeling of urgency to urinate, and more frequent urination events.  The symptoms of IC have the potential to affect one’s quality of life owing to pain and sleep interruption.

Existing Treatments

Treatments for IC are often patient specific, meaning that individuals may respond to one therapy versus another.  Prescription drugs, such as pentosan sulfate, hydroxyzine, amitriptyline, DMSO, and heparin are often first lines of treatment for this condition.  In certain situations, patients may undergo neuro-modulation therapy, surgery, and/or immuno-suppressive therapy.

ADH-01: Potential New Approach for Interstitial Cystitis

Interestingly, the composition of ADH-01 may have benefits in persons with IC.  ADH-01 may help restore the glycosaminoglycan barrier in the bladder wall, thereby helping to protect the bladder wall from injury.  Support for ADH-01 for use in interstitial cystitis can be found in the below article, which describes the use of hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulfate (both found in ADH-01) for this condition.
